The Janome 2212 is an entry level sewing machine and with the quality that it exudes, it is very much a bargain at its price of $149. The Janome features the dial pattern selection and stitch width and length adjustment to make its use easier for sewers that want precision and very pronounced stitches. It is also built in with 12 stitches and four step buttonhole feature for you to choose from. It is very lightweight and easy to use as well as easy to store. It is a very good fit for beginners.

Janome boasts its reliability in the simplest terms, in its machine. It has a vertical bobbin, though, the current trend now is a horizontal one, and the vertical bobbin configuration has a few of its own advantages. For example, thread jams are easily fixed in vertical bobbins and you can do that without removing your fabric on the bedplate, you can also fix or change your bobbin without taking your project off the machine and it’s also advisable to use vertical bobbins when you’re doing free motion quilting. Its weight and size ratio doesn’t really diminish its performance but rather users are finding it cute and handy, perfect for students who are taking sewing classes.

Beginners would also love this because it’s less complicated than what Singer and Brother products. It has a very good mechanical machine that is really nice. The stitch quality is also amazingly nice for its price. Its low maintenance feature is also being praised by users, the only thing you have in mind after each use is to clean the race hook and feed dogs and that’s it. The other stuff like lubrication, wiping and services/ machine repair is just advisable as needed.

On the other hand, its simplicity isn’t really that beneficial for complicated stitching. It’s not automated so the tension should be adjusted manually. There are also limited numbers of utility stitches, only 12 and a one four-step buttonhole and it’s kind of noisy. Judging on its capacity to work on fabric, the Janome can only stitch cotton/wool/linen and other natural fibers, fine fabrics like velvet, silk or satin, some knits, synthetic fabric like rayon and polyester and a few upholstery fabrics. It cannot be used for fur, suede, leather, plastic, rubber, think fabrics and multiple layers. A lot of mechanical movements should be present to access the drop feed. One must open and remove the accessory case and the bobbin case as well, which is slightly counterproductive for a task such as drip feed.

The Janome also includes a free arm, drop feed on board accessory storage compartment for your other sewing needs and two retractable spool pins. It has 4 snap presser feet (multi-purpose, zipper foot, sliding buttonhole foot and blind hem foot), three extra bobbins, small screwdriver, seam ripper, collection of needle and the owner’s manual.

Overall, the Janome 2212 is a user-friendly machine suitable for all stage types and even ages. It’s actually rated at 4.7 stars on Amazon, so nice right? But what do you think?
